2-Alarm fire in Sycamore, 12-16-16

This message is from Art Zern:

A fire broke out at the historic three-story Victorian, known as the Boynton Mansion, built in 1886. A van was fully involved in a carport, and firefighters were dispatched. Upon arrival, heavy flames were spreading into the kitchen, first, and second floors. The incident escalated to a 2-11 alarm. Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control effectively.

Here are some excerpts from DailyChronicle.com:

Norm Mathisen noticed an unusual smell while doing carpentry work on Friday at the Charles O. Boynton House, located at 307 N. Main St. He looked outside and saw his van on fire. The flames eventually spread from the carport to all three floors of the historic Sycamore home. Firefighters from over a dozen local departments spent about three hours bringing the fire under control.

Mathisen, owner of DeKalb-based Norm’s Custom Hardwood Flooring, said he didn’t notice anything wrong with the van when he returned from lunch around 12:30 p.m. He claimed the fire was still contained to the van when he called 911.

Sycamore Assistant Fire Chief Todd Turner mentioned that the 911 call came in at 12:52 p.m., reporting a van on fire in the carport. By the time firefighters controlled the fire in the carport, it had already spread throughout the house. To ensure the fire was completely extinguished, they had to tear out walls and windows inside the mansion.

The Boynton Mansion, an 8,000-square-foot Queen Anne-style red brick home, was designed by George O. Garnsey, who also built a similar property in DeKalb. The house remained in the Boynton family for over a century. Built between 1886 and 1887, it cost $12,000—equivalent to about $320,000 today—and has been a popular stop on local house tours.

Sycamore firefighters received assistance from several nearby departments, including DeKalb, Maple Park, Elburn, Kirkland, Hinckley, Sugar Grove, Burlington, Genoa-Kingston, and Cortland.

Honed Steel Tube

Honed tube is well known as hydraulic cylinder tube in industries. As honed tubes are the most important material of manufacturing hydraulic cylinders
We manufacture the honed pipes using our factory`s [Suitable To Hone" Steel Cold Drawn Seamless Tubes (CDS tubes)& Steel Cold Drawn Welded Tubes (CDW tubes). In order to produce extremely precise ID dimensions and smoothly ID surface, the honing process involves using abrasive polishing stones and abrasive paper to remove small amounts of material. Besides the honing process, we also use the SRB process (skiving and roller burnishing) to produce honed tubing. Honed tube is ready to use for hydraulic cylinder applications without further ID processing.
Honed precision tubes are made of seamless steel tubes, with raw materials hot rolled, under cold drawn process then honing. They are widely used for manufacturing hydraulic cylinders. Honing is a finishing method whose goal is to ensure perfect surface grade, in our case final treatment of the inner diameter of the tube. Advantage of this classic procedure honing is high geometrical accuracy of the shape with minimal conicity and waviness of the surface.
Main applications of Hydraulic honed tubing:
Honed tubing and SRB tubes (skived and roller burnished tubes) are mostly used as cylinder tube, such as hydraulic cylinder tube and pneumatic cylinder tubing, which are widely used for manufacturing and repairing hydraulic cylinders and pneumatic cylinders. As honed tube usually has very accuracy dimension tolerance and good surface smoothness, so this product is also used in applications where precision dimension or high smooth surface is need.
