In a neighborhood still recovering from heavy storm damage and without power two nights after a severe storm system that brought a tornado through Mt. Prospect, a house fire was reported around 9 p.m. Residents noticed smoke coming from a ranch-style home at 601 N. Elmhurst Avenue, located four streets west of Elmhurst Road (Route 83), at the corner of West Highland Street.

Off-duty personnel from Mt. Prospect responded to assist by bringing the squad to the scene to refill air bottles for the firefighters. Another image shows the effort to keep operations running smoothly despite the challenges.
As the fire spread rapidly, crews worked swiftly to contain it. Within 15 minutes, the flames were under control, and out-of-town units were released shortly after. The neighborhood, already struggling with storm damage, had trees and debris scattered across the streets, making the situation even more complex.
