Lightning strike in Lincolnshire, 5-16-17

On the early morning of May 16, 2017, firefighters from Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District (LRFPD) responded to a reported smoke incident at a home located at 20729 Eugene Avenue in an unincorporated area of their jurisdiction. Upon arrival, crews discovered a light haze inside and visible smoke outside, originating from a small fire likely caused by a lightning strike. At the scene, LRFPD units included Battalion 51, Truck 51, Engine 52, Engine 53, and Deputy Chief 5101. Additional support came from Buffalo Grove Fire Department with Engine 26, Ambulance 26, and Battalion 4, as well as Prospect Heights Engine 9 and Long Grove Chief 5500. Some other units had already returned to their stations before reaching the staging area. Photos from the scene show firefighters working to contain the damage, including one cutting through the house’s siding and another using personal protective equipment and hand tools. A dramatic image captures firefighters descending a ground ladder, while another highlights the aftermath of the lightning strike. A Buffalo Grove Engine 26, an E-One Typhoon model, was also seen on the scene. More photos are available on Shapirophotography.net.
