At the "City's New Energy and Water Source Heat Pump Technology Seminar" held on "May 30, 2006," it was announced that Chongqing will begin implementing water source heat pump technology this year. By next year, residents can expect to save up to 25% on their air conditioning costs. By 2020, approximately 15% of buildings in the city are expected to use this innovative system.
**Surface Water as a Preferred New Energy Source**
Xu Yongguang, director of the City’s Center for Building Technology Development, revealed that while solar and wind energy are also being explored, the city is focusing primarily on surface water as a new energy source. This initiative involves using Liangjiang Water’s developed water-source heat pump technology to create an efficient "water-air conditioner" system for buildings across Chongqing.
The water-source heat pump technology takes advantage of the relatively stable temperature of river water (around 22°C) to provide heating in winter and cooling in summer. With two main rivers and over ten secondary rivers, Chongqing has one of the richest water resources in the country, making it an ideal location for the development of this clean and sustainable energy solution.
**Air Conditioning Costs Cut by a Quarter**
Currently, only 50% of buildings in Beidahuang District are equipped with energy-efficient systems, while 95% of structures are high-energy consumers. Chongqing has been designated as a demonstration city for the second phase of its new energy development project, with pilot projects underway at the Nanan District Hotel and the Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Center.
This year, 150,000 square meters of "water-air-conditioned" buildings will be launched. The city plans to implement this technology in three stages: demonstration, industrialization, and large-scale promotion.
Although the initial construction cost may increase slightly, switching to "water-air conditioning" significantly improves indoor comfort, ensuring a pleasant environment year-round. Moreover, compared to traditional air conditioning, it reduces energy bills by up to 25%, offering real financial benefits to residents.
