Reebisch Hafen, Germany, reported global sales of 315 million euros last year, with 80 million euros coming from its film production lines used in the packaging industry. High-quality films produced using Reifenhauser equipment are widely applied across various packaging sectors, including food, pharmaceuticals, raw materials, fertilizers, winding, and automotive and electrical equipment. Ulrich Reifenhäuser, the company's president, emphasized that leading technology is the core of Reifenhauser’s continuous vitality, and innovation has been key to its long-term success.
During a product briefing held at its Suzhou factory this year, the reporter met with Ulrich. He explained that two years ago, Reifenhauser decided to establish a plant in Suzhou, aiming to position it as a regional center for technology and services in the Asia-Pacific. More importantly, the quality standards of the equipment produced there match those made in Germany. However, due to cost advantages, the equipment offers better value for customers in China and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
Founded in 1911, Reifenhauser has been a leader in extrusion technology since 1948, with over six decades of experience in the field. The company's strong R&D capabilities and extensive technical expertise have kept it at the forefront of the industry, contributing significantly to global technological advancements. During a visit to the Suzhou facility, the reporter witnessed firsthand the high level of technology employed by Reifenhauser.
Currently, the technological development of the equipment produced in Suzhou is fully aligned with that of the German headquarters. Key components are manufactured in Germany, making up 70% of the entire machine, while non-critical parts are processed locally in China. These components undergo rigorous inspection and certification to ensure quality and consistency.
Ulrich stressed that quality is the foundation of the brand. Reifenhauser never compromises on quality, no matter the circumstances. The company's new generation of motor-direct-drive extruders feature high torque, compact design, low energy consumption, and quiet operation. Their sealed motor water-cooling system ensures hygienic performance. After successful trials in Europe, these machines have now been launched in the Chinese market.
Another innovative product is the Z-shaped three-layer co-extrusion blown film die, which optimizes film tolerances and improves cooling efficiency, allowing higher output. The optimized pressure distribution in the mold cavity enables a wider range of layering ratios and a broader die diameter range. It is also easy to assemble and disassemble, facilitating cleaning and offering more resin options for customers.
Reifenhauser’s winder technology is equally advanced, with two series—UFA and SFA—that meet most customer requirements for winding. Over the past two years, 10 factories in the Asia-Pacific region have purchased Reifenhauser equipment, and the high quality of the machines has brought significant value to clients. Some customers have even repurchased the equipment after initial use.
Ulrich noted that the Chinese market differs from other regions in terms of business philosophy. Chinese customers place a strong emphasis on return on investment and cost-effectiveness. To address this, Reifenhauser provides comprehensive pre-sales and after-sales support, helping customers understand the technology and manage expectations regarding equipment performance and profitability.
