Innovation Accelerates Development of Guilin Rubber Machinery Plant

In 2003, Guilin Rubber Machinery Factory was selected as a pilot unit for national enterprise innovation and patent development. The following year, in 2004, it was recognized as a State-level Enterprise Technology Center, marking a significant milestone in its technological advancement. By 2006, the factory had gained international recognition when "European Rubber Magazine," one of the world’s leading publications in the rubber industry, included Guilin Rubber Machinery Plant in its global ranking of top rubber machinery manufacturers, placing it at the seventh position. These achievements are just a small part of the numerous honors the company has received over the past few years. Despite the challenges, the factory has experienced remarkable growth, with its production scale increasing from nearly RMB 100 million to over RMB 500 million within three years. It has now become the largest manufacturer of vulcanizers worldwide and is among the top ten rubber machinery producers globally. Its products have been included in the National Science and Technology Revitalization Trade Project, and ten of its products are listed in the National Major New Product Plan. Additionally, the company holds nearly 50 patents. Behind this success lies one key factor: innovation. Innovation has laid a solid foundation for the company's growth. As the business environment becomes more market-oriented, talent has become increasingly vital. In a competitive landscape where foreign enterprises and private companies offer flexible employment and high salaries, Guilin Rubber Machinery Factory has restructured its traditional human resource management system. It treats talent development as a systematic project, aligning itself with the standards of foreign and private enterprises. The company empowers employees by involving them in decision-making processes, such as selecting middle-level managers and determining project contractors. Training programs combine structured learning with hands-on experience, fostering a culture that values both skill and continuous improvement. Employees undergo three-year rotation training, ensuring they gain diverse expertise. In terms of performance, the company implements a high-risk, high-reward system, offering substantial rewards for successful performance while maintaining strict accountability. Product innovation has significantly boosted the company’s competitiveness. Positioned as a leader in tire vulcanizer manufacturing, the factory focuses on developing precise, high-tech equipment. It has expanded its product line to include a wide range of vulcanizers, from 1050 to 3000 specifications, overcoming previous limitations. Today, it can customize vulcanizers according to customer requirements and delivery schedules. In 2004, it achieved the first step of its five-year development plan by producing China’s first-class curing press. Now, it is competing at an international level, delivering world-class products. The factory also diversifies into other rubber machinery sectors, including radial tire production systems. Quality remains a top priority, with global procurement strategies and the use of internationally renowned brands to enhance product value. Through PDM (Product Data Management), the factory has minimized design defects and improved overall reliability. Ten of its products have been recognized as national key new products, and its radial tire vulcanizers were included in the 2003 National Science and Technology Promotion Project. Marketing innovation has injected new vitality into the company. It has transformed marketing into a comprehensive strategy, integrating customer relationship management, sales, and after-sales services. The factory has shifted from simple product sales to a global market approach, aligning its product development and sales with international standards. Chinese-American managers lead the sales team, helping the company expand into overseas markets. To ensure quality service, the company has established after-sales networks in the U.S., Europe, and Japan. Since 2000, it has successfully supplied hydraulic vulcanizers to Michelin, the world’s largest tire company, achieving a breakthrough in the export of hydraulic vulcanizing machines. It has now provided over 100 units to Michelin in France, becoming a long-term partner. This success has driven the adoption of hydraulic vulcanizers in Chinese tire factories, leading to their industrialization. In 2001, the company’s vulcanizing machine passed TUV certification, allowing entry into the European market. Today, 17 of the world’s top 75 tire companies, including all the top 10, use its products. As of the end of 2005, the factory had exported nearly 400 vulcanizers, generating over 50 million USD in foreign exchange. In 2006, it secured 16 million USD in export orders, with exports accounting for one-third of its annual revenue.
