North China drilling two Sulige drilling speed, the drilling speed of the rig is 5305 meters per month

The North China Petroleum Administration Drilling Company II has significantly boosted its drilling efficiency through enhanced technical management and innovation. As of mid-December, the company successfully completed 40 wells in the Sulige market, drilled 40 wellbores, and achieved a total of 13 million meters of drilling. The average daily drilling rate per rig reached 5,305 meters, while the mechanical drilling speed climbed to 16.35 meters per hour—marking an increase of 800 meters and 2.67 meters per hour compared to previous performance. Rapid drilling is a key strategy for reducing costs and improving productivity. To achieve this, the Sulige project department tailored its approach based on local conditions and construction challenges. They introduced and implemented the "Plug-type Well Group Technical Management Regulations" and other technical initiatives. Starting from the second quarter of this year, the company fully transitioned to PDC drill bits, replacing the traditional roller cone bits. This shift led to a significant improvement in mechanical drilling speed. The average mechanical drilling speed increased from 23.52 meters per hour last year to 40.12 meters per hour, reducing the drilling cycle by nearly 50%—a time saving of 11 hours per well. In the second stage of drilling, the company opted for blade-type drill bits that offer high abrasion resistance, strong composite material hardness, and dense tooth coverage. When properly matched with optimal drilling pressure, these bits can achieve up to 700 meters of footage per day—more than 100 meters above previous levels. After drilling the first 2,000 meters, the mechanical drilling speed remains consistently at 27 meters per hour, ensuring stable and efficient performance throughout the operation. In terms of drilling fluid management, the North China Drilling Company II carefully selected a drilling fluid system specifically suited for the Ordos block of the Sulige gas field. This system effectively addressed issues such as well leakage, borehole instability, and damage to oil and gas reservoirs, further enhancing operational safety and efficiency. Through continuous improvements in both drilling techniques and fluid management, the company has set new benchmarks in performance and reliability in one of China’s most challenging onshore fields.
