According to the project leader Professor Wang Hualin from East China University of Science and Technology, in 2000, Sinopec Engineering Construction Company relied on Shanghai Petrochemical 1 million-ton/year petroleum coking project to build the first large-scale modern petroleum coking unit in China. The technicians have developed a fully-enclosed, low-energy swirl decoking technology and a high-precision sub-micron oil droplet multi-field synergistic cyclone detaching for the characteristics of rapid changes in cold coke wastewater parameters, emulsification of oil-water-coke, and interleaving of wastewater and exhaust gas. Using this innovative technology, the Shanghai Petroleum & Chemical Co., Ltd. 1 million-ton/year coke plant cold coke effluent closed separation and utilization system has been operating smoothly since January 2004. The project, jointly completed by East China University of Science and Technology and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation Zhenhai Refinery Branch, has applied for 10 intellectual property rights. The complete set of technologies was adopted by the Chinese environmental protection industry standard HJ/T125-2002. At present, the achievements have achieved 31 successful applications in China and 1 overseas, and the domestic petroleum coking unit market share has reached 80%.
