Wang Xujiang, chairman of the China UPR (Unsaturated Polyester Resins) Industry Association, recently stated that the current global low-carbon economy's impact on various industries and the introduction of low-carbon standards based on energy quotas are gradually being introduced, which greatly promotes low-cost and low-energy consumption. The demand for multifunctional lightweight structural glass steel has led the industry to a great deal of development. It is understood that unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) is the largest amount of thermosetting resin in China, and is also the largest amount of matrix resin used in domestic glass steel, artificial stone, and handicrafts. From 2001 to the current decade, UPR continued to grow, jumping from 500,000 tons in the year to 1.68 million tons in 2012, an increase of 3.36 times in 12 years.
The main application industries of UPR in China are FRP (FRP Composite) market, artificial stone and handicraft market, gel coat and coating market. In the FRP industry, the current and future applications for continuous growth, first, urbanization construction to start the transformation and expansion of water supply and drainage projects, urban sewage treatment, industrial water recycling and other large-diameter (1 ~ 4m) glass steel pipe. Second, the development of marine economy has led to the construction of marine projects, including desalination of seawater, offshore oil and gas fields, offshore wind power, nuclear power, and other requirements for large-scale FRP anti-corrosion projects and large-diameter glass steel pipelines. The third is the high-speed rail and rail transit industry. The manufacturing technology of high-speed rail and urban rail transit glass fiber reinforced plastic parts in China is very mature. New product development has emerged in an endless stream, and has formed a glass steel industry cluster supporting high-speed rail and rail transit. The fourth is the lightweight construction of special vehicles for automobiles. Special vehicles include refrigerated trucks, passenger cars, container trucks, etc. Ultra-lightweight new materials made of lightweight 3D closed-cell foam structures with FRP lightweight materials will be used in large quantities. The fifth is the boat project. More than 24m of luxury fiberglass yachts, border patrol boats, fiberglass fishing vessels, etc. are the key projects for high-end fiberglass boats that are in urgent need of breakthroughs. Sixth, anti-corrosion and environmental protection projects use a large number of chemical storage tanks, pipelines and pressure anti-corrosion pipelines. Seven is an energy-efficient building.
