The Palatine Fire Department received multiple emergency calls around 11:00 AM on December 17, 2012, reporting smoke and flames coming from an apartment located at 1213 Longvalley Drive in an unincorporated area of their jurisdiction near Rand Road. As the number of calls increased, the battalion chief escalated the alarm to a working fire while units were still en route to the scene.
Initial reports indicated that someone was trapped on the third floor of the three-story building. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke pouring from the basement unit window. They quickly launched an attack and brought the fire under control within minutes. The fire appeared to be contained to the basement, but smoke was visible throughout the structure.
A photo shows thick smoke rising from the stairway, indicating the intensity of the fire. Another image captures firefighters and a sector chief standing at the entrance of the building as interior crews worked to suppress the flames. A third photo highlights the evacuation of residents, who were escorted to an ambulance for medical evaluation.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and no injuries have been reported so far. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of quick response and effective firefighting efforts in residential areas.
