ABB recently received a contract to provide complete power, propulsion and automation (product library supply) packages for the five new cruise ships being built by MV WERFTEN.
     The five cruise ships are all made by Genting Hong Kong brand Crystal Cruises and Star Cruises. The Crystal Cruises 3 luxury Endeavor-class masons (ship-type shipyards) will meet Polar Class 6 requirements for sailing in the Arctic and sailing to Antarctica along the Americas and European coastlines during the winter.
     The Star Cruises Global Class is designed for the Asian market with a registered tonnage of 204,000 tons and will be the world's largest postal ship upon delivery.
     All five cruise ships will be equipped with ABB's complete propulsion system (purchasing supply), power generation equipment, automation and marine software (purchasing supply) systems.
     The three cruise ships of Crystal Cruises will be powered by two Azipod D propellers (purchased by the product library), each of which will help the ship to sail under extreme conditions, while each of the two new cruise ships of Star Cruises will Install 3 Azipod XO thrusters. To optimize energy management, all cruise ships will also be equipped with ABB's flagship automation with intelligent operator interface and OCTOPUS marine software.
     It is understood that five cruise ships are scheduled to be delivered from 2019.
