On May 26th, the 2009 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report of China's Industrial Economy, sponsored by the China Federation of Industrial Economics, was officially launched at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Yuchai Group, along with 19 other leading companies such as State Grid Corporation and Baosteel Group, released its 2008 CSR report. This event marked a significant step in showcasing how Chinese enterprises are actively fulfilling their social responsibilities. This conference served as the first centralized platform for releasing CSR reports in China, with an annual release schedule. The initiative aims to encourage industrial companies and associations to regularly publish their reports, fostering a culture of transparency, self-discipline, and social accountability. Over 10 industries, including steel, machinery, power, chemicals, mining, non-ferrous metals, and coal, were represented at the event, reflecting the broad scope of participation. During the meeting, Xu Kuangdi, President of the China Federation of Industrial Economics and member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, emphasized the importance of corporate social responsibility. He highlighted that Chinese companies have shown strong commitment during crises like the 2008 snowstorm and Wenchuan earthquake, but as the country continues its rapid industrialization, enterprises must take on broader societal roles beyond economic performance. Minister Li Yizhong of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also addressed the gathering, noting that the ongoing financial crisis has severely impacted China’s real economy. In such challenging times, he urged companies to prioritize their social responsibilities. He called for integrating CSR into business strategies, emphasizing employment stability, safe production, integrity management, and environmental protection as key pillars of responsible corporate behavior. Ms. Chen Ying, a member of the UN Global Compact Council, praised the initiative, stating that it contributes significantly to national stability and enhances the international image of Chinese enterprises. She expressed strong support for the efforts of the China Industrial Economics Federation. An expert evaluation panel organized by the China Federation of Industrial Economics reviewed Yuchai’s report, which received high praise. Experts noted that Yuchai has consistently published sustainability reports since 2008, setting a benchmark for the internal combustion engine industry. The report reflects Yuchai’s commitment to the UN Global Compact principles and its active involvement in developing global social responsibility standards. It highlights the company’s focus on green development, environmental protection, and people-centric values. At the press conference, leaders such as Xu Kuangdi, Minister Li Yizhong, and Ms. Chen Ying presented CSR certificates to the participating companies. Liang Ping, Party Secretary of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd., accepted the certificate on behalf of Yuchai. As a major player in diesel engine manufacturing, Yuchai remains committed to promoting sustainable development and demonstrating its corporate responsibility through annual reports. By doing so, it encourages other companies to embrace CSR, advance green technologies, and contribute to a more harmonious society and environment. Yuchai continues to strive toward becoming a globally recognized brand and a leading multinational enterprise.
