The scientists successfully synthesized a new type of electrolyzed water catalyst

Recently, Zhang Tierui, a researcher at the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, succeeded in synthesizing a highly efficient electrolyzed water catalyst to realize efficient activation of water molecules under low voltage, which has made it possible to solve the hydrogen crisis in the future. Relevant research results published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society Journal (Journal of the American Chemical Society JACS).

Two-dimensional nanomaterials have attracted the attention of material scientists for their unique ultra-thin nanostructures and superior electrical conductivity. The hydrotalcite (LDH) as a natural mineral clay, its structure is controlled, easy to industrialization, has been in the asphalt UV aging resistance, plastic film infra-red absorbers, PVC heat stabilizers and coatings, industrial wastewater adsorbent, Industrial catalysts and other applications.

Over the years, Zhang Tierui led the team to conduct an in-depth study on a nanostructure called "hydrotalcite (LDH)" mineral clay. In this study, the researchers synthesized the ultra-thin ultra-small NiO / TiO2 heterogenous nanostructures by high-temperature calcination by precisely controlling the hydrotalcite precursor morphology.

According to Dr. Zhao Yufei, the first author of this paper, this structure shows superior catalytic performance in the electrocatalysis of aquatic oxygen. Fine structure characterization indicates that this structure not only has an active surface, but also the presence of nickel vacancies, which facilitates the bonding with water molecules. The heterogeneous structure of the interface is further promoted the electrocatalytic decomposition of aquatic oxygen reaction.

At the same time, the study confirmed that the catalyst synthesis method is simple, the use of natural reserves of non-precious metals as raw material, the ultra-thin ultra-thin NiO material has electrocatalytic decomposition of water, capacitors and other aspects of application, but also for the preparation of other metal oxide Nanosheets Electrocatalysts.

Previously, the team achieved photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide by manipulating the stack thickness of the hydrotalcite nanomaterials. Hydrotalcite was used as a carrier. Through the ammoniation at high temperature, the nano-Ni3FeN electrocatalyst was fully hydrolyzed, which is expected to be industrialized. The researchers also prepared an interface-rich Ni / NiO heterostructure by high temperature reduction and achieved a breakthrough in the visible light-driven CO hydrogenation of higher hydrocarbons. In addition, the researchers also turned the structure of hydrotalcite-based nanostructures into nitrides and oxides, revealing the relationship between the structure and properties of the catalytic materials in depth. The obtained catalytic materials showed extremely strong photocatalytic activity Adjustable structure advantages for the design of high-performance optoelectronic catalytic material provides the idea.
