After President Hu Jintao met with Russian President Medvedev, the two countries unanimously agreed on the 24th to issue the "China-Russia Heads of State Meeting in Beijing Joint Communique." The communique stated that the heads of state of the two countries pointed out that energy cooperation is an important part of China-Russia strategic cooperative partnership. China and Russia will continue to cooperate in the fields of oil and gas and electricity, including large-scale bilateral cooperation projects. The two sides agreed to establish a coordination mechanism for energy cooperation between the two countries at the vice premier level.
The heads of state of the two countries believe that the development of cooperation in the nuclear field is one of the priorities of bilateral economic cooperation. The two sides expressed satisfaction with the results of cooperation in this area. The two countries will continue to carry out mutually beneficial cooperation.
The two sides stated that they will further strengthen cooperation in science and technology, aerospace, information industry, civil aviation, transportation, and banking, and implement relevant common projects.
The "Year of Russian Language" held in China in 2009 and the "Year of Chinese Language" held in Russia in 2010 are another major event in the bilateral relations between China and Russia. Both sides should design and run various activities in the “Year of Russian†and “Year of Chinese Language†and set up a high-level national organizing committee to coordinate these tasks.
Medvedev ended his two-day state visit to China on the evening of the 24th and left Beijing by special plane to return to China.
This is Medvedev's first visit to China since he took office on May 7th, and is also the first time he has visited the countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States after he took office. Medvedev was also the first foreign head of state to visit after the May 12 earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province.
