Allison Helps European City Clean Efforts to Develop Argentine Market

A few days ago, garbage truck solutions provided by Urbaser (called "Transportes Olivos" in Argentina ), Iveco, and Allison were promoted to Argentina and were successfully piloted. In the field test in Buenos Aires, it was proved that the efficiency was increased by 32%.

According to the engineers of Allison Transmission, Urbaser, Iveco and Allison's joint efforts in Europe successfully met the needs of end users. Therefore, the three cooperative companies decided to promote this successful case to Argentina and took the lead in piloting a fully automated Iveco Eurocargo 170E22 truck in the capital Buenos Aires. "It takes less time to collect more waste. This is an Allison automatic transmission that provides Argentina's garbage truck with an efficient, low-noise solution," he said.

The pilot project involved three companies working with Iveco dealer Aurélia in Buenos Aires to develop a prototype vehicle at the dealer's factory. As the results of the pilot project exceeded expectations, Iveco ( Argentina ) decided to develop a new Eurocargo 170E22 RSU automatic transmission on the basis of a European prototype. In 2009, after a lot of process design and product testing, at the plant in Córdoba, Argentina, Iveco made adjustments to the production line of the car. In April 2010, the first fully automated Eurocargo truck went offline.

Buenos Aires' garbage collection service companies favor efficient vehicles that collect more garbage in less time. And vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions undoubtedly increase productivity, reliability, durability and fuel economy. At the same time, the automatic garbage truck also has the important advantage of low maintenance costs and high vehicle utilization. Garbage trucks must be able to operate normally and efficiently over a useful life of approximately 4 to 10 years while at the same time reducing fleet maintenance costs.

Field trials show 32% improvement in Allison automatic truck work efficiency

In Buenos Aires, the Transportes Olivos garbage truck team conducted an assessment. An Iveco Eurocargo 170E22 prototype equipped with an Allison 3000 series transmission was delivered to the user for a 93-day actual use test. During the test period, this Allison automatic transmission model and another equivalent model with a manual transmission were compared and tested under the same time and working conditions.

Based on the data collected, the following conclusions are drawn:

Model Kilometers Working hours Tons collected
Automatic transmission 16,566 1,200 1,548.04
Manual gear 16,423 1,319 1,286.72

According to the comparative test data, the automatic train (1.29 tons per working hour) is 32% more efficient than the manual train (0.97 tons per working hour) in terms of tons of garbage collected per working hour.

Allison and Iveco recently conducted a test drive test experience for many important garbage collection companies in Buenos Aires. During the event, customers have the opportunity to test drive the first production of Iveco Eurocargo 170E22 RSU garbage truck and experience the power of automatic transmission. Representatives of Iveco and Allison also performed spectacular vehicle performance demonstrations and work processes.
