2-Alarm brush fire in Hawthorn Woods. 10-18-15

The Lake Zurich Fire Department was called to a field of burning cattails in Hawthorn Woods on Sunday. The area was surrounded by residential homes, and the nearest access points were several blocks away. Because of the large size of the fire and the limited access, they initially requested a MABAS Box Alarm and later upgraded to a Second Alarm. The address listed for the incident was 8 Westwind Court.
I arrived at the scene after the Second Alarm units had been dispatched, but by the time I got there, the fire was already under control. I took a few photos to capture what I saw at the location.
These images show the response efforts and the aftermath of the fire. It’s always interesting to see how quickly emergency services respond, especially in situations where access is limited and the terrain can be challenging.
