The development of spare parts lags behind the weak competitiveness of China's auto industry

Although as of the first half of this year, China deserved to become the world’s largest auto consumption power, the overall level of China’s auto industry’s international competitiveness still remains a big gap with the developed countries.

In the "Automobile Blue Book - China Automotive Industry Development Report 2009" (hereinafter referred to as the "Automotive Industry Report 2009") released on Tuesday by the Development Research Center of the State Council, a series of detailed data demonstrations have shown that accelerating the strategic restructuring of the automobile industry and accelerating the zero The development of supporting industries such as parts and components is a top priority for improving the competitiveness of China's auto industry.

Although the goal of China's auto sales reached 10 million units this year is not too much of a suspense, but the Chinese Automobile Engineering Society Secretary-General Fu Yuwu was not blindly optimistic when interviewed by CBN. He believes that China's auto industry from innovative capabilities, independent brands The strength, the position in the global value chain system and other aspects have a wide gap with the developed countries.

According to the "Automotive Industry Report 2009", if the maximum value of the international competitiveness of the developed country's auto industry is set to 100, the Chinese auto industry's international competitiveness score in 2007 was only 52.83, an increase of 10.9% year-on-year. If only compared with the most developed Germany in the automotive industry, the German automotive industry's international competitiveness score was 81.16 in 2007, while China's score was 51.10, which is only 63% of the German score.

The reason is analyzed in the "Automotive Industry Report 2009" that the long-term development of the government-led auto industry development model has not completely disappeared. In terms of management mechanism, multi-headed management, local protection, and market protection exist to varying degrees; The effectiveness of policies such as encouraging independent innovation, guiding market-oriented industrial integration, and increasing industrial concentration is unsatisfactory and still needs further strengthening.

The lagging development of auto parts and components is a common consensus in the industry. In the face of the increasingly widespread and deepening financial crisis, the challenges faced by export restrictions, foreign-funded enterprises’ large-scale expansion, and the decentralized status of their industries and irrational product structures, etc. The survival of parts and components companies is worrying.

In order to objectively understand and analyze the current status of domestic auto parts companies' product development capabilities, the China Automotive Engineering Society conducted a survey on the five assembly companies of engines, transmissions, axles, brake systems, and steering systems at the beginning of the year through a questionnaire survey. .

The survey results are worrying: At present, China's auto parts industry can only meet the basic supporting requirements for mid-range and low-end models, and it is a component product that represents the future technological trends, especially automotive auto parts products that are related to energy-saving, environmental protection, and safety of automobiles. There is no corresponding research and development and production capacity.

The current status of the parts and components industry is that in the areas of key components such as engines and transmissions, there is no direct competition between self-branded companies and foreign-funded enterprises. In the areas of automotive glass and lamps, Chinese companies have a certain share of the supporting market and export market. However, the influx of foreign-funded enterprises has brought great pressure to Chinese companies. This shows that as the financial crisis continues to spread and deepen, the survival of local auto parts companies is facing more severe challenges.
