MVA with entrapment near Long Grove, 3-18-15

This is from Larry Shapiro:

Long Grove Fire Protection District units, along with mutual aid companies from Buffalo Grove, Prospect Heights, and Arlington Heights, were dispatched to a tractor-trailer rollover involving possible entrapment on the northbound I-53 off-ramp to eastbound Lake Cook Road around 2:40 p.m. on March 18, 2015. Buffalo Grove Tower 25 was the first unit on scene and confirmed that two people were trapped inside the overturned truck. They immediately requested a second ambulance and a heavy wrecker equipped with airbags to assist in the rescue operation.

Two separate extrication efforts were underway—Long Grove focused on freeing the passenger while Buffalo Grove and Prospect Heights worked on the driver. There was initial discussion about calling in a helicopter due to concerns about the time it might take to free both individuals, but it ultimately wasn’t needed. The passenger was freed first, followed shortly by the driver. Arlington Heights Ambulance 4 and Long Grove Ambulance 55 transported the victims to Lutheran General and Condell hospitals, respectively.

Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51 was called as a third backup unit but was released upon arrival since the situation was under control.

Here are some photos from the scene, with a full gallery available at shapirophotography.net. I’ll also be posting a video of the extrication, as well as images and footage of the recovery performed by Hillside Towing.
