Honda sales in China in March: "Oil Throttle" continues to ferment CR-V sales of less than 1,000 vehicles

On April 3, Honda released its sales of terminal vehicles in China in March 2018. According to the data, in the past March, the cumulative sales of GAC Honda and Dongfeng Honda Terminal were 97,587 vehicles, which was a decrease of 13% from the same period of the previous year, which was 112,172 vehicles. Among them, Guangzhou Automobile Honda's total terminal sales in March was 58,950 units, a slight increase of 1.9% year-on-year; and Dongfeng Honda was affected by the "accelerator" incident. In March, the terminal sold only 38,637 new vehicles, a substantial drop of 28.9% year-on-year. Particularly worth mentioning is the CR-V, which is the protagonist of Honda's “accelerator throttle” incident. Since the suspension of sales of the 1.5T model was announced in early March, only 916 units were sold last month.

In the first quarter of 2018, a total of 300,826 vehicles were sold by Guangqi Honda and Dongfeng Honda, down by 2.3% from 307,834 units in the first quarter of 2017. Among which, Guangzhou Automobile Honda Motor Co., Ltd. sold 172,045 vehicles in the first quarter, a slight increase of 3.3% year-on-year; Dongfeng Honda's total terminal sales in the first quarter were 128,781 vehicles, a year-on-year decline of 8.9%.

In terms of product performance, Guangyuan’s subsidiary sold only 19,506 units of its Accor model in March alone. The sales volume of the Accord has soared by 50% year-on-year, leading the increase. In the first quarter of this year, Accord’s terminal sold 49,676 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 22.9%. The other two main models, Fit and Binzhi, all saw a slight decline in sales in March. Among them, Fit's terminal sales in March were 9,191 units, which was a decrease of 18.3% year-on-year. Binzhi’s total sales volume in March was 8,918 units, a year-on-year decline of 24.2%, and the decline further expanded. As for Guandao, it continued to maintain its good growth momentum since the beginning of the year. In March, terminal sales reached 5,494 units, which was a 35.7% increase over 4,049 units in the same period last year.

In terms of other models, Ling sent a total of 7,606 vehicles in March, a slight increase of 0.5% year-on-year. In the first three months, the Lingda Terminal sold a total of 24,307 vehicles. Fengfan sold 3,727 vehicles in March, a year-on-year decrease of 33.1%, a slight increase from the beginning of the year.

In Dongfeng Honda, CR-V, the "Shinge", completely fell off the altar after the "accident of the engine" and sold less than 1,000 vehicles in March. But this does not seem to be the worst. It is reported that Dongben explicitly suspended the sale of the 1.5T model in early March. After a brief fall in February, the Civic once again returned to the level of 13,000 vehicles at the beginning of the year, and sold a total of 13,586 new vehicles, which was a 16.5% year-on-year decline. The decline narrowed slightly. From January to March, Civic accumulated a total of 36,492 vehicles, down 10.5% year-on-year. In the following days, whether the Civic will continue to pick up the sales flag of East Ben as in the past. It still needs to be further verified by the market. In other models, the UR-V sold 3,390 vehicles last month, which rose 200.8% year-on-year and led Dongfeng Honda's sales in March. After a slight drop in February, the XR-V sales exceeded 10,000 units in March and sold 10,036 vehicles. However, compared to February, the decline further expanded, reaching 19.4%. Jed sold 3,085 vehicles in March, a 77.5% year-on-year increase. SI Platinum Rui sold 1,016 units in March, an increase of 13.9% year-on-year.
