Excerpts from abc7chicago.com:
A tragic house fire in the 8600-block of South Hermitage in Gresham left a 10-year-old girl and her mother dead early Sunday morning. The victims, identified by family as Ieashia Ford and her daughter Porsche, were reportedly asleep when the fire broke out. According to relatives, the blaze was not an accident, but rather the result of a deliberate act.
Four other individuals were hospitalized following the incident, including the mother’s boyfriend and two cousins. All are expected to recover, though the fire department and police are still investigating the cause. Firefighters worked quickly to rescue the six people inside, but only four managed to escape.
The tragedy has sparked concern, especially after family members revealed that the mother had been in an argument with someone who had been harassing her for some time. "He was sending her text messages and threatening her," said family member Felicia White. "He even said he was going to set her house on fire."
An arson unit was at the scene, but investigators have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire. For now, it is being treated as a death and fire investigation.
