UV Technology – Safe and Effective

Ultraviolet light is a well-established method for water disinfection. Unlike chlorination or ozonation, UV treatment does not introduce any chemicals into the water, preserving its taste, odor, and color. It also avoids harmful byproducts and requires minimal contact time, making it fast, efficient, and eco-friendly.

How UV Disinfection Works

The system ensures that water receives an adequate germicidal dose throughout the chamber. The dosage depends on two factors: the intensity of UV radiation and the exposure time. Higher flow rates reduce exposure time, while lower flow rates increase it. The total dosage is calculated as UV intensity multiplied by exposure time.

Limitations

This system is not intended for treating highly contaminated water such as raw sewage. It should not be used to convert wastewater into potable water.

Water Quality Requirements

To ensure optimal UV performance, the following maximum levels are recommended: - Iron ≤ 0.3 ppm (0.3 mg/L) - Hardness ≤ 7 gpg (120 mg/L) - Turbidity ≤ 1 NTU - Manganese ≤ 0.05 ppm (0.05 mg/L) - Tannins ≤ 0.1 ppm (0.3 mg/L) - UV Transmittance ≥ 750‰ If your water exceeds these limits, additional pre-treatment may be necessary.
