Brief Introduction to Ram Blowout Preventer:
The ram BOP is an essential component of well control equipment, offering flexible opening and closing operations, ease of use, safe service, and simple maintenance.
1. Application
The ram BOP is designed to seal the tubular annulus or the well. When in the closed position, it allows for operations such as circulating drilling fluid, releasing pressure, and killing the well via the spool beneath the BOP or pipelines connected to the BOP body. Under special circumstances, the ram BOP can shear the pipe in the hole to seal off the well. If the BOP has variable bore rams, it can seal the annular space between the casing and pipes within the ram's size range.
2. Structural Features
(1) Body Structure:
1) Shape. The BOP has a square-like body with a vertical bore allowing pipes to pass through and ram cavities where the rams move horizontally.
2) Connection types. The BOP is available with stud, flanged, and hubbed top and bottom connections. Flange sizes, bolts, clamps, and ring grooves conform to API 16A standards.
(2) Ram structure
For dual-face rams, the upper and lower faces are symmetrical. Different sizes of drilling tools require only replacing the semi-annular rubber sealing ring and ram compact, while others can be interchanged.
(3) Seal of Ram
The ram seal relies on four seals: the seal between the ram's top and housing, the seal between the ram's front end and pipeline, the seal between the housing and side-gate, and the seal between the piston rod and side-gate.
(4) Locking Mechanism of Ram
The manual locking device requires manpower to rotate the handwheel to close or lock the rams. It should be noted that the manual locking device is only used to close the rams. Before opening the rams with hydraulic pressure, ensure the manual locking device returns to its original position to unlock the rams.

Operating Requirements:
(1) In case of blowout, the full-enclosed ram BOP can pack off an empty well or the semi-enclosed ram can pack off the drilling tool with the same size as the ram. If long-term well closure is required, the ram should be manually locked, and a nameplate should be provided for indication. The wheel should be pulled to the station before turning back by 1/4~1/2 circuit.
(2) Before opening the rams, check if the manual locking device is unlocked. After each opening of the rams, ensure they are fully open to prevent damage to the pipes.
(3) Release pressure in the control manifold before opening or closing the door to avoid damage to the O-Ring of the hinge. If the door is not fully open or the bolts are not properly installed, it is not allowed to open or close the rams with hydraulic pressure.
